The Rashtrapati Bhawan stands as one of the most glorious buildings in the whole of New Delhi. It is the house of the president of India and does justice to that in every way. The building exhibits an extravagant mosaic of Mughul and Western architecture and attracts thousands of visitors who simply admire the structure and the picturesque surroundings of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The building dates back to the colonial era of India and was then known as the Viceroy House. It was designed by Sir Edwards Lutyens as the residence of the British Viceroy, Lord Irwin, who was the first occupant of the building. The construction was completed in 1929 and was inaugurated in 1931. After independence in 1950, India took over the building, renamed it Rashtrapati Bhawan and housed the first citizen of the nation, the President of India. Despite it being designed by the British, the architecture has an elaborate Mughul touch emulated by its beautiful dome called Chhatri , the Durbar Hall, Ashoka Hall, the pillars and the typical Indian structures which include elephants, cobras and other traditional animals sculptured around the outside gardens.

Even the grills made out of red sandstone are well known for their Indian design. The largest and most elaborate room in the building is the beautiful Durbar Hall. Measuring 22.8 metres in diameter this is the hall which is used for all kinds of important official ceremonies. The Rashtrapati Bhawan also houses some interesting structures with their own tales to tell. The several bells found at the entrance are one such ornament that depicted the everlasting rule of the British, while the Jaipur column is another structure. Situated in the middle of the main court, this 145 metre tower was gifted to the Rashtrapati Bhawan by the Maharaja of Jaipur.

The Rashtrapati Bhawan is also famed for the beautiful colourful gardens that surround this lavish structure. Savour the architecture and the spectacular ambience of his timeless building that has attracted hundreds of visitors to New Delhi. Choose from the many
